Macromedia Dreamweaver 4
These instructions will assist you in publishing your site to your hosting account. The first step is to open Dreamweaver 4 and then click on "site" then select "Define Sites".
Next: You are prompted with a window with the current Defined Sites, if you have pre defined the site, select it, or otherwise click "New"
Next: Switch the Category to "Remote Info". Change access to" FTP".
This is the important part, entering the server settings.
FTP Host: yourname.co.nz (As in the Domain Name that you have hosted with us.) Host Directory: /var/www/html (You need to set this else when you publish your files they will be in the wrong place and will not work.) Login: username@yourname.co.nz (As in the Domain Name that you have hosted with us without the .co.nz, or .com etc) Password: ???? (The password that you choose when you opened your hosting account with us)
Check the "Save" box
You can also enable "Use Passive FTP" if you have a ADSL or full time internet connection.
Click OK, Dreamweaver will build a library of files, click Done.
Next: The following window appears. You can see in the left window the files located on your computer are displayed, (very similar to Microsoft Explorer) and in the right window the files located on the server (remote) are displayed. (note: Depending on the preferences you have set in Dreamweaver, the windows might be reversed.)
Next: You need to get Dreamweaver to connect to the server using the settings you're just set. Locate this button
Click it and it will turn green, like this,
. The words, "Connecting, Searching for host" will be displayed. If you have entered the settings correctly Dreamweaver should connect to the server, and the following screen will be displayed.
Next: You are now connected to the server, you can now upload or download your files (put and get). Use the standard windows navigation rules (+ to open a directory, and - to close) to find and select the files you want to upload. Make sure you change to the correct directory on the server before uploading.
You have to use these buttons to transfer the files.
The blue arrow means "Put" a file on the server (upload), then green means "Get" a file from the server (download).
You have now uploaded the files to the server, you should now be able to view your files in the browser.
